  • High surf forces closures at South Padre Island beaches
A recent cold front has produced gale-force winds and 6-to-9-foot waves, prompting Cameron County to close multiple beach access points on South Padre Island. Vehicle and pedestrian access were restricted at Beach Access Nos. 4, 5, and 6 due to dangerous surf and erosion.
  • Texas SNAP recipients begin receiving reduced benefit payments
Over 3 million Texans enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are receiving partial payments starting November 10, following federal funding disruptions. The new allotments amount to about 65% of typical monthly benefits, while food banks brace for increased demand.
  • Alamo Cenotaph in San Antonio to be rededicated after restoration work
The iconic 56-foot tall monument commemorating the 1836 Battle of the Alamo will be rededicated on Veterans Day. Recent restoration included drainage repairs, marble realignment, and cleaning; ownership transferred to the state last year as part of a broader redevelopment of the site.
  • Major milestone reached in SH 199 expansion near Fort Worth
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced that traffic has shifted onto the newly built eastbound bridge over Lake Worth, part of the $104 million SH 199 project aimed at easing congestion in northwest Tarrant County. The work marks a key phase in the statewide “Texas Clear Lanes” initiative.
