The Department of Homeland Security identified five men it said had prior convictions, including a Texas case involving repeated DWI and smuggling convictions in Harlingen

The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested five men it described as convicted criminals in the country illegally, including one in Texas, as part of its ongoing enforcement operations.

According to ICE, the Texas case involves Salvador Lerma-Garcia, a Mexican national the agency said was convicted of three counts of driving while intoxicated, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of illegal re-entry, and alien smuggling in Harlingen.

The agency said the other arrests include Juan Adelso Rizo-Salgado, a Nicaraguan national convicted of forcible sexual abuse in West Valley City, Utah; Santo Aybar Vizcaino, a Dominican national convicted of possession with intent to distribute heroin in Lawrence, Massachusetts; Darwin Roderico Gonzalez-Delgado, a Guatemalan national convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in Miami; and Nicolas Barrera-Granados, an El Salvadoran national convicted of robbery and a marijuana offense in Los Angeles.

The agency said the arrests reflect its continued effort to remove people with criminal convictions from U.S. communities. In a statement, Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said ICE officers had arrested individuals the agency considers public safety threats.

ICE did not provide further detail on the dates or circumstances of the arrests. Anyone with information about a crime or a person sought by immigration authorities can contact ICE’s tip line at 1-866-347-2423.
