DEL RIO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry recently seized more than $1.7 million in cocaine, according to the agency, netting 129.67 pounds of the drug in a single vehicle.
Del Rio Port Director Liliana Flores said the seizure is a direct result of the unwavering vigilance and commitment of CBP officers. Flores said it’s a clear example of how investment in technology and training translates directly into the agency’s ability to secure the border and protect nearby communities.
The seizure happened Aug. 4 at the Del Rio International Bridge. A CBP officer referred a 2013 Dodge Durango, driven by a 29-year-old male U.S. citizen, for secondary inspection. Officers used a nonintrusive inspection system during the follow-up exam, and a physical search of the vehicle turned up 49 packages hidden inside the quarter panels, containing a total of 129.67 pounds of alleged cocaine. CBP put the combined street value of the drugs at $1,731,425.
CBP seized the narcotics, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents have made one arrest and opened a criminal investigation.
