Dallas artists have less than a month to submit their work for one of the city’s most culturally significant exhibitions. The 2025 Virgen de Guadalupe Art Exhibition is accepting submissions through October 24, and this year’s show promises to be extraordinary.
Curator Jose Vargas, who has organized this exhibition since 1992, is seeking original artwork that celebrates the Virgin of Guadalupe – the dark-skinned indigenous Madonna whose story has captivated people worldwide for nearly 500 years.
Why This Exhibition Matters
The Virgin of Guadalupe holds profound meaning far beyond Mexico’s borders. According to tradition, she appeared to Juan Diego, a humble peasant, in 1531 on Tepeyac Hill just north of Mexico City. Her feast day, December 12, draws millions of pilgrims annually.
“Although the symbol of the Virgin of Guadalupe is tightly connected with the history of Mexico, people from many parts of the world have found themselves attracted to the fascinating story of the dark-skinned indigenous Madonna,” Vargas explains.
This exhibition celebrates that universal appeal while honoring the deep cultural roots of this powerful religious figure.
What Vargas Is Looking For
Original concepts and innovative techniques are encouraged. Your artwork must either depict the Virgin of Guadalupe directly or be primarily based on her image, but creativity in interpretation is welcomed.
All media accepted – painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, digital art. The only size restrictions are practical: minimum 8″ x 10″, no maximum limit.
Two pieces maximum per artist, with no entry fee required.
Professional presentation required – artwork must be ready for installation with proper wiring, D-rings, or sawtooth hangers.
