CBP’s Air and Marine Operations said it will run air and maritime security for the inaugural NASCAR race held on an active military installation at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego this weekend
U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations said it will carry out security functions as NASCAR holds its first auto race on an active military installation, at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego.
According to AMO, the event runs June 19–21, 2026, headlined by the NASCAR Cup Series Anduril 250 on June 21. The agency said it will deploy air assets, including A-Star and UH-60 helicopters, to conduct air security and overwatch throughout the weekend.
AMO said the aircraft are equipped with surveillance systems and real-time video downlink capabilities that allow its teams to monitor the event from multiple vantage points and share information with command centers and partner agencies. The agency said the technology improves situational awareness and supports coordinated responses for the safety of participants, fans, and military personnel. In addition to air operations, AMO said its San Diego Air and Marine Branch will provide maritime security aboard multiple vessels to safeguard the waters around the base.
“This mission set reflects the work we do every day as part of our border security mission,” said AMO Southwest Region Executive Director Hunter Robinson. Robinson said the agency’s technology and coordination with local law enforcement enable it to provide security for events like the race.
AMO said its integrated air and maritime operations — including surveillance, rapid response, and emergency support — reflect its broader mission of protecting critical infrastructure and supporting major public events.
