See jaw-dropping custom cars compete for the ultimate prize — getting turned into a real Hot Wheels die-cast sold worldwide — plus life-size Hot Wheels, a Fast & Furious car, and hands-on fun for the whole family, with back-to-back stops in Houston and Dallas
Saturday, July 11, 2026 in Cypress and Saturday, July 18, 2026 in Grand Prairie. Both events run 8 a.m. to noon. Free and family-friendly.
Gentlemen and ladies, start your engines — because one of the coolest free events of the summer is roaring into Texas, neighbor. Not once, but twice. The Hot Wheels Legends Tour pulls into Cypress on Saturday, July 11, then rolls up to Grand Prairie the very next weekend on Saturday, July 18. Whether you’re in the Houston area or up in the Metroplex, this one is worth clearing the calendar for.
Here’s the deal, and it’s a good one. The Legends Tour is the world’s largest custom car competition, a global hunt for the next vehicle awesome enough to be turned into an actual Hot Wheels die-cast car. That’s right — some lucky builder’s real-life ride will get shrunk down to 1:64 scale and sold to fans and collectors all over the world. Talk about automotive immortality. At each Texas stop, a panel of judges — including Hot Wheels designers and local car personalities — will crown one winner who rolls on toward the regional finals and, ultimately, the Global Grand Finale in November.
The motto says it all: “Built, not bought.” These aren’t showroom cars — they’re passion projects, garage dreams, and one-of-a-kind creations that look like they drove straight out of a Hot Wheels package. Judges score every entry on three things: authenticity (does it look like a Hot Wheels?), creativity, and that hard-to-define “garage spirit.” Past winners have ranged from a wild twin-engine machine to a tiny micro-truck affectionately named “Texas Toot” — so anything goes.
And here’s the part that makes it perfect for the whole family, even if you’ve never turned a wrench in your life. You don’t have to enter a car to have a blast. Each stop features the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends — life-size versions of famous Hot Wheels cars — plus hands-on play spaces for the kids, premium die-cast displays, and special-edition Hot Wheels Legends products you can only get at Tour events. This year there’s even more eye candy: an iconic car from the Fast & Furious saga, celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary, a life-size Hot Wheels Bone Shaker reimagined as the villain Skeletor to tie in with the new Masters of the Universe movie, and a full-size Hot Wheels Formula 1 car set up for photos. Bring your camera — this is a stop the whole family will want pictures from.
Got a custom build of your own you’re proud of? This is your shot at the big leagues. Builders of all makes and models, shapes and sizes are encouraged to enter, so if you’ve been pouring your heart into a project in the garage, bring it on out and let the judges have a look. You never know — your ride could be the next one hanging on a Walmart pegboard everywhere.
Saturday, July 11 — Cypress: Walmart Supercenter, 26270 Northwest Fwy, Cypress, TX 77429
The Houston-area stop kicks the Texas leg off in Cypress, just off the Northwest Freeway. Gates open at 8 a.m. and the whole show wraps by noon, which is smart timing — you get in, get inspired, and get back home before that July heat turns brutal. Come early to grab a good look at the featured Garage of Legends builds, let the kids loose in the play zones, and give yourself time to walk the entries before the judges do their thing. If you’re bringing a build to enter, this is the closer show for anyone coming out of Katy, Tomball, Spring, The Woodlands, or Houston proper.
Saturday, July 18 — Grand Prairie: Walmart Supercenter, at the Grand Prairie location off I-30
One weekend later, the tour rolls up to the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex for the Grand Prairie stop, again 8 a.m. to noon. Same free admission, same lineup of life-size Hot Wheels heroes, same shot at the die-cast dream — a fresh set of Texas builders, and a fresh crowd. If you’re anywhere between Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, or Irving, this is your show. And here’s a fun idea for the true gearheads: you could actually do both. Catch the Cypress stop, drive up I-45 during the week, and see how the Metroplex entries stack up against the Houston field. Two Saturdays, two winners, one long weekend road trip in between.
A few quick tips for either stop: come early to beat the crowds and the Texas heat. Bring sunscreen, water, and your car-loving kids, and plan to wander, snap photos, and soak up the gearhead energy. Admission is free at both events, which makes this an unbeatable Saturday-morning outing no matter which side of the state you’re on.
So fuel up, round up the family, and pick your Saturday — Cypress on July 11 or Grand Prairie on July 18. Whether you’re chasing die-cast glory with your own build or just coming to gawk at some seriously cool cars, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour is a fast, fun, free morning the whole family will remember. Two chances, one summer, all Texas. See you at the show, neighbor.
