Prost! Your Guide to Every Major Oktoberfest Across Texas

From Addison to Fredericksburg, Texas turns German heritage into a full season of polka bands, beer steins, and lederhosen this September and October, and each city puts its own spin on the tradition.

Texas has arguably the deepest authentic German heritage of any state south of the Mason-Dixon line. Starting around 1844, the Adelsverein, or Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas, organized the relocation of thousands of German-speaking settlers to the Republic of Texas, and those communities put down roots that never really left. Every fall, that heritage takes over the state in the form of Oktoberfest, and while the celebrations share the same DNA, beer, polka, lederhosen, each one has developed its own personality over the decades.

Addison Oktoberfest (38th Annual) — September 17-20, Addison Circle Park, DFW area

Addison Oktoberfest has been running since 1987, kicking off its very first celebration to coincide with the opening date of the original Munich festival, a tradition it still honors today. Presented by Paulaner, the same Munich brewery that pours beer at the actual Oktoberfest in Germany, the event has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich itself, drawing more than 45,000 fans annually. Fun fact: Paulaner beer here is served in genuine 0.5-liter souvenir steins, and the festival’s beloved Dachshund Dash, sponsored by Pappy’s Pet Lodge and Raising Cane’s, lets wiener dogs take center stage for their own footrace. This year, attendees can even enter for a chance to win a trip for two to the actual 2027 Munich Oktoberfest. addisonoktoberfest.com

Fort Worth Oktoberfest — September 21-23, Trinity Park, Fort Worth

Fort Worth’s version runs three days and always lands about a week before the State Fair of Texas kicks off, giving North Texans a nice one-two punch of fall festivities. The festival sets up near the Van Zandt Cottage across from Farrington Field, with hours running from 5 to 11 p.m. on the first two nights and stretching to midnight on Saturday. One quirky rule that sets it apart: pets generally aren’t allowed on the grounds, with a specific Saturday exception for pre-registered dogs competing in the event’s own dachshund race. fwoktoberfest.com

Oktoberfest Dallas — September 26, Pole Hill Park near White Rock Lake

This one keeps things simple: a single day, running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., but it packs in nonstop musical entertainment across the day alongside a shaded beer hall for anyone looking to escape the Texas sun between sets. Its lakeside setting near White Rock Lake gives it a noticeably different feel from the park-and-plaza setups of its DFW neighbors, more relaxed, more shaded, and an easy add-on to a day already spent near the lake. oktoberfestdallas.com

Fredericksburg Oktoberfest (43rd Annual) — October 2-4, Marktplatz, downtown Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg’s celebration dates back to 1981, when the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance started the festival specifically to fund local arts scholarships and grants, a mission the event still supports today. Set in the heart of Hill Country German heritage country, it’s considered one of the oldest Oktoberfest celebrations outside Munich itself. The festival spreads across five stages of continuous music and offers more than 50 varieties of German, American, and Texas craft beer, alongside Texas Hill Country wine selections you won’t find at the other Oktoberfests on this list. Signature events include a Kraut Run, the Hauptstrasse Chicken Dance, a Samuel Adams Beer Stein Hoist, and a 42 Domino Tournament, a distinctly Texan touch mixed into an otherwise Bavarian weekend. visitfredericksburgtx.com

Taken together, these four festivals turn late September and early October into an unofficial Oktoberfest season across Texas, each one shaped by its own local history, its own quirks, and its own reason locals keep coming back year after year. Whether you’re chasing the most authentic Bavarian beer, the best dachshund race, or just an excuse to dust off a dirndl, there’s a Texas Oktoberfest built for exactly that mood.
