Trunk-or-Treat Season Is Here — Your Weekend Plans Just Got Easy

Let’s be real: your kids don’t care about the historic charm of a haunted house or the thrill of a scare zone. They want candy, costumes, and a parking lot full of decorated cars they can hit before bedtime. Good news, neighbor, Texas has you covered nearly every weekend this October.

North Texas Has a Trunk-or-Treat for Every Sunday

If you’re anywhere near Dallas-Fort Worth, you basically can’t avoid finding one of these. Churches, schools, and local businesses throw dozens of trunk-or-treats all month long. Head to Lake Dallas on October 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. for one with a costume contest built right in, City Park, 101 E Hundley Drive, Lake Dallas, TX 75065, and email [email protected] if you want details ahead of time. Grapevine, Coppell, Euless, Hurst, Burleson, and Irving all run their own versions too, so check your city’s parks department page and pick whichever weekend works for your family.

San Antonio Turns It Into a Whole Day Out

Traders Village runs its Trick or Treat Trail every single weekend in October, and it’s not just candy, you get a corn maze and a Halloween light show thrown in too. Find it at 9333 Southwest Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78242, or check tradersvillage.com for exact hours.

Prefer something a little more scenic? Boerne turns its historic Hill Country Mile into a trick-or-treat trail, 100 Main Street, Boerne, TX, running 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dress the kids up, stroll the shops, and let them collect candy along the way.

And if your family needs a calmer pace, the Autism Treatment Center hosts a Sensory-Friendly Trunk or Treat Fall Festival from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., complete with a hay maze, petting zoo, and pumpkin patch. Built specifically with sensitive kids in mind.

Austin Families, Here’s Your Shortlist

All Saints Austin keeps it simple with a bounce house, lawn games, and candy, right in their own parking lot. Check allsaintsaustin.org for the date, and bring a bag of candy to donate if you can.

Austin Baptist Church runs its own event at 7016 Ribelin Ranch Drive, Austin, TX 78750. Pull up austinbaptistchurch.com for the schedule.

Houston, Don’t Sleep on Your Church Calendar

Holy Family Catholic Church’s Kiernan Center in Baytown throws its Spooky & Sweet October Festival at 7122 Whiting Rock Street, Baytown, TX 77521. And honestly, that’s just one of dozens running across Harris County all month, so check your own church bulletin or neighborhood Facebook group too.

Here’s the best part: almost every single one of these is free. No tickets, no sign-up, just show up in costume and go door to car to car. A few sensory-friendly or specialty events ask for an RSVP, so double-check before you load up the kids.

Not seeing your city on this list? Don’t worry, pull up a quick search for “trunk or treat” plus your town name. Somebody near you is throwing one this month. Grab the costumes, grab a pillowcase, and go have yourself a Halloween.
