AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott recently met with Samsung Electronics Co.’s President and CEO, Kye Hyun Kyung, and other executives at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin to celebrate Samsung’s ongoing partnership with Texas. The meeting highlighted Samsung’s significant investment in the state, aiming to make Texas the leading semiconductor hub in the United States.

The future is full of advanced chips, & many of those will be #MadeInTexas.

Yesterday, I met with @Samsung executives to discuss their $40 BILLION investment in Texas.

Two years ago, Governor Abbott celebrated Samsung’s new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas. Building on that initial $17 billion investment, Samsung is now expanding its operations by adding a second chip-manufacturing plant at the Taylor facility. This new expansion brings the total investment in Central Texas to over $40 billion and will include an advanced packaging facility and a research and development center.

The expansion is projected to create over 20,000 jobs in the region northeast of Austin, doubling Samsung’s initial investment in the area and establishing a world-class semiconductor hub.

“Samsung’s investment of over $40 billion cements Texas’ position as the No. 1 state for semiconductors, bringing in more business investment and creating thousands of well-paying jobs in our great state. The future is full of microchips, and we’re proud that some of the world’s most advanced chips will be Made in Texas,” said Governor Abbott.

Joining the meeting were Corporate President and Head of Foundry Business Siyoung Choi, Corporate President and Head of Global Public Affairs Office Won Kyong Kim, and Corporate Vice President and Head of Global Public Affairs team Hyouk Woo Kwon.

During the discussion, Governor Abbott emphasized the strong partnership between Texas and Samsung, reaffirming the state’s commitment to making Texas the semiconductor hub of America. Samsung executives expressed their appreciation for Governor Abbott’s support, particularly his role in passing the Texas CHIPS Act last year. The conversation also focused on Texas’ robust workforce, with Samsung noting the success driven by the talented Texas workforce.

Governor Abbott recently announced the inaugural members of the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium Executive Committee (TSIC EC), which operates under House Bill 5174 and is part of the new Texas CHIPS Office in the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office. The TSIC EC will oversee the Consortium’s work, ensuring Texas remains a national leader in advanced semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing.

Governor Greg Abbott and Samsung Electronics Co. executives have announced plans to establish a world-class semiconductor hub near Austin, Texas. This significant development aims to position Texas as the leading semiconductor hub in the United States, reflecting a strong partnership between the state and Samsung.
