LUBBOCK, Texas — A coordinated law enforcement operation led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit has resulted in the arrest of 44 individuals in the Lubbock and Abilene areas. The weeklong initiative targeted parole violators with violent felony convictions, gang affiliations, and other serious criminal histories.

Among those apprehended, one individual was wanted on a sex offense warrant, and 12 others were reported to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to immigration-related issues.

“Getting these dangerous criminals off our streets will help make our state safer,” said Attorney General Paxton. “I’m proud of the dedicated law enforcement officers in our Fugitive Unit as well as the professionalism and bravery of every law enforcement agency that contributed to the success of this operation.”

The operation was a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies, including the Abilene Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security.

The Fugitive Apprehension Unit comprises investigators, criminal analysts, administrative assistants, and command staff. Their mission includes locating and arresting violent fugitives, convicted child sex offenders who violate parole conditions, and sex offenders who fail to comply with state-mandated registration requirements. Additionally, the unit assists in locating missing and endangered runaway children reported by local law enforcement agencies to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

At this time, the names, photographs, and specific charges of the 44 individuals have not been publicly released. Those arrested are currently in custody, pending further legal proceedings. If convicted, they face penalties commensurate with the severity of their offenses, which may include extended prison sentences and, for those with immigration violations, potential deportation following the completion of their sentences.

This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Texas law enforcement agencies to enhance public safety by targeting and apprehending individuals who pose significant risks to the community.
