HOUSTON, TEXAS — The City of Houston’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) announced changes to its curbside collection schedule in observance of two upcoming city-approved holidays: Juneteenth Day on Thursday, June 19, and Independence Day on Friday, July 4, 2025. All SWMD facilities will be closed on both days, and residential collection services will follow a modified schedule.

Revised Holiday Collection Schedule

Juneteenth Day – Thursday, June 19, 2025

  • No collection services on Thursday. SWMD offices and facilities will be closed.

  • Thursday curbside garbage will be collected on Friday, June 20.

  • Friday curbside garbage will be collected on Saturday, June 21.

  • Recycling, yard waste, and heavy trash services will occur on their next regularly scheduled collection day.

  • Normal collection operations resume Monday, June 23.

Independence Day – Friday, July 4, 2025

  • No collection services on Friday. Facilities remain closed.

  • Friday curbside garbage will be collected on Saturday, July 5.

  • Recycling, yard waste, and heavy trash will follow the normal schedule the following week.

  • Services resume Monday, July 7.

Plan Ahead

Residents are urged to plan accordingly and avoid placing bins at the curb on days when no service will occur. Delays or early set-outs can impact neighborhood cleanliness and collection efficiency.
