FORT WORTH, TX — A new chapter is about to unfold for one of Fort Worth’s most iconic institutions. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has announced a complete transformation of its beloved Omni Theater, unveiling plans for the newly named Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater — a state-of-the-art venue that will house the world’s first museum-based 8K LED digital dome, powered by Cosm Technology.

Originally opened in 1983, the Omni Theater has welcomed more than 10 million visitors with its signature IMAX experience and breathtaking “Fort Worth Flyover.” Now, a 16-month renovation project, launched in May, will upgrade the theater into a fully digital, ADA-accessible venue, offering unprecedented levels of immersion and interactivity for future guests.

“The Omni Theater is an integral part of our Museum’s legacy,” said Orlando Carvalho, President of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. “This next-generation upgrade will deliver a transformative experience that merges science, storytelling, and wonder — continuing our mission of interpreting the science and stories of Texas and the Southwest.”

An Out-of-This-World Upgrade

The new 8K LED dome will make the Omni Theater a global leader in immersive technology, designed to engage audiences of all ages in breathtaking explorations of the universe, nature, and beyond. The transformation includes:

  • A brand-new lobby redesigned for ADA accessibility and ease of entry

  • Comfort-enhanced theater seating

  • Digitized 8K LED projection with full-dome capabilities

  • Multi-use capabilities for immersive shows, corporate events, product launches, and educational programming

The renovation is led by Byrne Construction Services, the original builders of the Omni Theater, with architectural design by Bennett Partners.

Powered by Cosm: The Closest You Can Get to Space Without Leaving Earth

At the heart of the renovation is the partnership with Cosm, an industry leader in experiential technology. With a legacy spanning 75 years of building the world’s top planetariums and immersive theaters, Cosm’s technology allows audiences to travel deep into space, dive into oceans, or explore distant worlds — all from their theater seats.

“I’ll never forget the first time I visited the Omni as a kid,” said Jeb Terry, CEO of Cosm. “Now, we’re giving that same sense of awe and discovery to a new generation with immersive experiences that are truly out of this world.”

Upcoming Shows: Space, Science & Sensation

Upon reopening, the Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater will offer a curated lineup of signature shows, including:

  • “Deep Sky” – A journey through the James Webb Space Telescope’s stunning discoveries

  • “Experience Earth” – A globe-spanning documentary on ecosystems and human impact

  • “Asteroid Mission” – An edge-of-your-seat adventure following real NASA asteroid captures

  • “The Universe in 8K” – Cosm’s flagship show delivering ultra-HD spaceflight visuals, bringing guests as close as possible to being an astronaut

More titles will rotate seasonally, with themed programming during school holidays, summer break, and Science Week.
