Tired of watching younger folks have all the fun on the courts? Arlington Parks & Recreation is about to change that with their brand-new 50+ adult recreational leagues at ACTIV. Whether you’re competitive or just want to stay active with new friends, there’s a spot waiting for you this fall.

Registration is open now through August 15 for leagues starting in September, and at these prices, you’ll spend more on dinner out than a whole season of games and exercise.

What’s Available (And What It’ll Cost You)

Men’s Basketball (50+ D League)

  • When: Wednesdays, September through November
  • Cost: $40 per player
  • Register: Basketball League registration

Co-ed Volleyball (50+ D League)

  • When: Sundays, September through November
  • Cost: $40 per player
  • Register: Volleyball League registration

Co-ed Pickleball (50+ D League)

  • When: Sundays, September through November
  • Cost: $35 per player
  • Register: Pickleball League registration

Co-ed Cornhole (50+ D League)

  • When: Tuesdays, September through November
  • Cost: $35 per player
  • Register: Cornhole registration

Why This Is Perfect for the 50+ Crowd

These aren’t high-intensity competitions designed for 20-somethings trying to relive their glory days. The “D League” designation means these are recreational leagues focused on fun, fitness, and meeting people – not crushing the competition.

You can join solo and get matched with a team, or round up your friends and register together. Either way, you’re looking at 12+ weeks of regular exercise, social interaction, and friendly competition for less than most people spend on a single night out.

The ACTIV Advantage

This isn’t happening at some run-down community center. ACTIV is Arlington’s brand-new, massive recreation facility that opened in March 2025 at 2061 W. Green Oaks Blvd in West Arlington.

This is the city’s largest recreation center, built with voter-approved bond funding from 2017 – meaning Arlington residents specifically chose to invest in facilities like this for exactly these kinds of programs.

More Than Just Game Day

Being part of these leagues isn’t just about the weekly games. You’re joining a community of active adults who’ve decided that 50+ means “just getting started,” not “winding down.”

ACTIV offers way more than just these leagues – there are fitness classes, social activities, and other programs designed specifically for adults who want to stay active and engaged. The league registration could be your gateway to a whole new social and fitness routine.

Perfect Timing for Fall Fun

September through November is ideal timing for outdoor-minded activities without the brutal Texas summer heat. You’ll be getting regular exercise just as the weather becomes perfect for staying active.

Plus, starting a new fitness routine in fall means you’ll be in great shape for the holidays instead of starting another January resolution that fizzles out by March.

What “D League” Really Means

Don’t worry – “D League” doesn’t mean “terrible players only.” It means recreational focus rather than highly competitive. Think friendly competition, skill-building, and having fun rather than intense rivalries and win-at-all-costs attitudes.

Whether you’re a former athlete looking to get back in the game or someone who’s always wanted to try organized sports, these leagues are designed to be welcoming and inclusive.

How to Make It Happen

Registration deadline: August 15, 2025
Season: September through November 2025
Ages: 50 and older

The registration process is straightforward – just click the links above for your sport of choice and sign up. You can register as an individual or as a team, and the city will handle the rest.

Why You Should Act Now

At $35-40 for a full season, these spots are going to fill up fast. Arlington’s 50+ population is active and engaged, and word is spreading quickly about these new league opportunities.

Plus, team sports work best when everyone starts together at the beginning of the season. Jumping in mid-season means missing out on the team-building and skill development that happens in those first few weeks.

The Social Benefits You Didn’t Think About

Sure, the exercise is great, but the social aspects might be even better. These leagues create built-in social activities, new friendships, and regular reasons to get out of the house and interact with people who share your interests.

For many participants, the post-game conversations and friendships that develop are just as valuable as the fitness benefits.
