DEL RIO, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector arrested a Cuban man previously convicted of sexual assault of a child, according to a release from Customs and Border Protection.
On Aug. 19, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a group of four men who had entered the United States illegally. One of the individuals was later identified as Alexis Suarez-Trejos, 52, an illegal alien from Cuba, according to CBP.
Record checks revealed Suarez-Trejos was convicted in 2001 in Nevada for sexual assault of a child under 14. He was sentenced to 40 months of incarceration and placed on the Nevada sex offender registry, according to the release. CBP said Suarez-Trejos was most recently removed from the United States on Oct. 22, 2025.
As a convicted felon, Suarez-Trejos now faces a charge under 8 U.S.C. § 1326 for reentry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
