In this episode, we sit down with Julie Pickren, a dedicated educator, homeschool mom, and member of the Texas State Board of Education, to discuss the recently passed curriculum changes in Texas.
With a lifelong passion for learning and education, Julie shares her insights on the importance of parental involvement, the values driving the new curriculum, and what it means for Texas students and families.

Julie brings a wealth of experience, from her time as an Alvin ISD Trustee to her ongoing work supporting educational initiatives across the state. We also dive into her personal journey—balancing roles as a small business owner, community advocate, and proud supporter of Native American economic opportunities.

The Texas board of education voted 8-7 on Friday to approve a new Bible-based curriculum in elementary schools. The curriculum, called “Bluebonnet Learning”, could be implemented as soon as August 2025 and affects English and language arts teaching material for kindergarten through fifth grade public school classes.

Join us for a thoughtful conversation about how these updates aim to prepare students for success while staying rooted in Texas values.

Tune in for a deeper understanding of the vision shaping Texas education!
