President Biden postponed his trip to Austin, Texas one day after former President Donald Trump was injured in an assassination attempt during a Pennsylvania rally.

The President had been scheduled to speak at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act passage in 1964.

President & CEO of the LBJ Foundation Mark K. Updegrove issued a statement to confirm.

“Given the unfortunate events of the last 24 hours, we anticipated that the President’s schedule could change anytime.”

Instead, the President will have an NBC News interview with anchor Lester Holt on Monday at the White House, as reported by the Associated Press.

On Sunday afternoon, Biden said he had spoken to Trump and directed the Secret Service to review all security measures for the upcoming Republican National Convention this week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation. It’s not who we are as a nation. It’s not America, and we cannot allow this to happen. Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but nothing is (more) important than that right now,” the President said.

The new date for Biden’s Texas visit has not been confirmed, but it’s expected to be later in July.
