HOUSTON, Texas — Texans are casting their votes today in the November 4 General Election, deciding on 17 proposed state constitutional amendments and dozens of local propositions across the state. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. tonight, with results expected to begin rolling in shortly after.
At the top of the ballot are measures that could reshape major policy areas — including education, tax relief, water infrastructure, and parental rights. Among the most closely watched items are:
-
Proposition 1, which would establish a fund for capital projects within the Texas State Technical College System;
-
Proposition 2, banning any future state tax on personal income or capital gains;
-
Proposition 4, dedicating a portion of sales tax revenue to the Texas Water Fund to support water infrastructure; and
-
Proposition 15, affirming parents’ fundamental right to direct the education and upbringing of their children.
Governor Greg Abbott and legislative leaders have urged Texans to study the ballot carefully, emphasizing that many of the proposed amendments stem directly from priorities set during the most recent legislative session.
Local voters are also deciding on a range of issues, from city charters to new venue projects. In Bexar County, residents will determine the future of a proposed downtown sports and entertainment arena, while voters in Conroe are weighing potential changes to their city government structure.
Voters must bring an approved photo ID to the polls, and election officials are reminding Texans that anyone in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote. Sample ballots and polling locations are available at VoteTexas.gov
