AUSTIN — May 13 marks the 33rd anniversary of Falun Dafa, an ancient spiritual practice rooted in meditation and moral teachings centered on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. To honor the occasion, both chambers of the Texas Legislature have passed resolutions officially designating May 13, 2025, as Falun Dafa Day in the state.

“Followers of Falun Dafa constitute an important part of the diverse cultural fabric of Texas, and Falun Dafa Day provides a fitting opportunity to recognize their devotion to the teachings of their faith and to the ideals of peace and freedom,” the Texas House resolution states.

Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a traditional Chinese meditation practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. Brutally persecuted in China, the practice has found widespread support internationally, including in Texas.
Speaking on the House floor, Rep. Tom Oliverson expressed his appreciation for the community: “Although they are heavily persecuted in places like China, in Texas they are free. We welcome them into our state and into our community, and we are grateful for their many contributions. We welcome the Falun Dafa practitioners and their commitment to their spiritual discipline, peaceful living, and the defense of religious freedom.”
Over in the Senate, Sen. Angela Paxton welcomed practitioners in person and commended their resilience and values. “I first learned about the beautiful practice of Falun Gong from one of my constituents,” she said. “Practitioners of Falun Gong strive to attune their lives to the universal qualities of truth, compassion, and forbearance.”
Sen. Paxton also condemned the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Dafa, referencing Texas’ role in opposing human rights abuses. “Texas will continue to stand as a safe haven,” she said, noting that Texas was the first state to pass a law opposing forced organ harvesting—a practice linked to the persecution of Falun Gong adherents in China.
