  • Health alert issued as whooping cough cases skyrocket in Texas
    The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed more than 3,500 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) in October—about four times more than the same month last year. The rise marks the second consecutive year of increasing cases, and officials are urging vaccinations, especially for pregnant women and those around newborns.
  • EPA grants Texas primacy over Class VI underground injection wells
    The Environmental Protection Agency has approved the Railroad Commission of Texas to regulate Class VI carbon-dioxide storage wells under the Safe Drinking Water Act, making Texas the sixth state granted this authority. Industry leaders say the move will streamline permitting and bolster investment in carbon-capture infrastructure.
  • Unseasonably warm mid-November weather spreads across Texas
    Temperatures soared 10–20 degrees above average in many parts of the state, with some areas nearing 90 °F—a highly unusual reading for the season. Meteorologists noted patchy fog early morning and a weak cold front possibly arriving next week, though no significant cooldown is expected immediately.
  • Tractor­trailer fire shuts down I-30 in Rockwall
    All eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 were closed early Thursday after a tractor-trailer caught fire near Ridge Road in Rockwall County. The incident occurred around 5 a.m., and traffic was diverted as emergency teams cleared the area; no cause has been released yet.
