  • Powerful cold front sweeps into South-Central Texas
A strong cold front moved into the region, bringing dramatic temperature drops from the 90s to highs around the low 70s and lows nearing the upper 30s. Gusty northeast winds of 20–25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph created fire weather conditions across South-Central Texas, prompting a Red Flag Warning and fire watch.
  • Governor renews statewide fire-weather disaster proclamation
Citing ongoing dry conditions and elevated fire risk, the governor renewed a statewide disaster declaration covering more than 200 counties. The proclamation enables faster access to state resources and grants to respond to wildfires, ensuring readiness for potential outbreaks.
  • Texas economy shows signs of cooling amid shaky job growth
The latest employment report from the Dallas Fed revealed that job creation and wage growth in Texas have slowed compared to earlier this year. While the number of registered businesses continues to rise, analysts caution that economic expansion may be losing momentum without strong new drivers.
  • New sushi destination opens in Austin’s East Sixth Street district
“Shokunin,” a 20-seat Japanese restaurant featuring raw fish flown in weekly from Tokyo’s Toyosu Market, opened in Austin at 1009 East Sixth Street. The minimalist dining room offers no tempura or noodles—just pristine fish atop carefully prepared rice. The restaurant joins Austin’s growing pipeline of high-end, walk-in-only dining experiences.
