  • Texas A&M Aggies climb to No. 3 ranking, UH and UT slide
    Texas A&M achieved its highest Associated Press poll ranking in 30 years—jumping to No. 3 after a 7-0 start to the season. Meanwhile, Texas Longhorns slipped to No. 22 and Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped to No. 15 following recent defeats.

  • Cold front brings relief — and wildfire risk — to Southeast Texas
    A weak cold front pushed through Southeast Texas, offering lower temperatures but increasing wildfire danger due to dry air and gusty winds. Houston and surrounding counties remain on alert for fire risk.

  • Texas venues expand film and entertainment infrastructure
    Film producer Taylor Sheridan announced a major studio expansion in Fort Worth, planning facilities five to eight times the size of his current operation. The project reinforces the region as a growing hub for film and TV production.

  • Shots fired during burglary in Temple; one injured

    A ticket sold in Midland won the $1.075 million top prize in the Texas Two Step lottery, drawn Thursday. The winner has not yet claimed the prize, and a secondary prize of $25,000 was also claimed in Plano.

  • Houston-area trustee races spotlight Houston ISD and neighboring districts
    Voters will fill nearly 40 school- and college-board seats around Houston on Nov. 4. Key contests include the Cy-Fair ISD board, Houston ISD’s ongoing governance issues, and Aldine ISD’s major turnover.

  • Editorial board issues stance on 17 state amendments ahead of ballot
    The Express-News Editorial Board published its positions on the 17 statewide constitutional amendments and local ballot measures, supporting 8 and opposing 9, and endorsed key school- and city-level propositions.
