ARLINGTON, Texas — With the FIFA World Cup coming to North Texas in less than a year, nearly 200 volunteers grabbed trash bags and gloves to clean up Lake Arlington on Friday, June 13.
The community cleanup lasted from 9 to 11 a.m. at two spots around the lake, bringing together neighbors who wanted to make their area look great before the world’s biggest soccer tournament arrives.
Why Clean Up for the World Cup?
The 2026 World Cup will bring millions of visitors to North Texas from around the globe. Arlington and surrounding cities want to show off their best side when the world is watching.
“We want this to be something that has a lasting legacy, not something that just stays two months of the games,” said Meghna Tare, who works on sustainability for the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee.
The cleanup focused on:
