The Department of Homeland Security said the man overstayed a tourist visa and cited a prior assault conviction and a prior arrest; he is in custody pending removal proceedings
The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested an Argentine national in Maryland who it said overstayed a tourist visa.
According to DHS, the arrest happened June 19 during a targeted enforcement operation in Silver Spring, Maryland. The agency identified the man as Alejandro Saul Rico and said his record includes a conviction for assault in Maryland and a prior arrest for a third-degree sex offense. The arrest did not result in a conviction noted by the agency, and an arrest is not a finding of guilt.
DHS said Rico’s family entered the United States on a tourist visa in Miami and traveled to Disney World, then overstayed the visa. According to the agency, Rico was granted a visitor visa in 2006 that expired in 2016, and he remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
In a statement, Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said the man overstayed his visa and pointed to his cited record, adding that the administration is working to ensure visas are not misused.
