Marquette Greene-Scott is currently Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Iowa Colony, Texas, holding Position 3 on the city council. Marquette was born to Beatrice Greene and the late Joseph Greene (a Vietnam Veteran who served three tours of duty) in Opelousas, Louisiana. She is the youngest of five children and the proud mother of a 24-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn. Marquette is also a newlywed, having recently married Lisco Scott, an IT Professional.
A Louisiana native, Marquette relocated to Texas in 2010 in search of better economic opportunities so that she could provide for her daughter. As a one-time single mother, she understands the financial and emotional needs of families, as well as the tremendous importance of community. Marquette has lived by the African proverb, “It takes a village.” She would not have been able to work and be there for her daughter without the help of her family and friends. Marquette moved to Sterling Lakes at Iowa Colony in 2019 because she was looking for an area with the character of a small town but accessible to the city of Houston. Having grown up in a small town, she saw Iowa Colony as home: an escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Marquette is a graduate of Southern University and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, both located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Marquette has taught mathematics in high school (East Baton Rouge Parish School System & Alief ISD) and college (Southeastern Louisiana University & Southern University) for a total of 14 years.
