The Department of Homeland Security identified five men it said had prior convictions for crimes including child sexual abuse and rape, arrested in a nationwide enforcement operation

The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested five men it described as convicted criminals in the country illegally, as part of its ongoing enforcement operations.

According to ICE, those arrested include Mario Ramos-Meza, a Mexican national the agency said was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 and continuous sexual abuse of a child in Los Angeles, California; Juan Magdaleno-Cruz, a Mexican national convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 in Stockton, California; Juan Palomo-Orellana, an El Salvadoran national convicted of rape and a controlled-substance offense in Columbus, Ohio; Irvin Enoc Sosa-Medina, an El Salvadoran national convicted of aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and child cruelty in Hudson County, New Jersey; and Eliseo Garcia-Gordillo, a Honduran national convicted of aggravated sexual battery in Prince William County, Virginia.

The agency said the arrests reflect its continued effort to remove people with criminal convictions from U.S. communities. In a statement, Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said ICE officers had arrested individuals the agency considers public safety threats.

ICE did not provide further detail on the dates or circumstances of the arrests. Anyone with information about a crime or a person sought by immigration authorities can contact ICE’s tip line at 1-866-347-2423.
