Houston, Get Ready to Feel the Fire of Flamenco This Saturday Night!

This Saturday, September 13th, your typical weekend plans just got a serious upgrade. Guitarist Misael Barraza is bringing authentic Spanish flamenco to Houston for the very first time, and trust me, you don’t want to be the only one who missed this.

What Makes This Night Different from Your Usual Saturday

Forget dinner and a movie. At 8 PM this Saturday, Ovations in Rice Village transforms into an intimate Spanish tablao – that’s basically a cozy performance space where you’re so close to the artists, you can feel the stomps of the dancers vibrate through the floor and watch the guitarist’s fingers fly across the strings.

Ana María Barceló leads this powerhouse lineup alongside Barraza, with dancers Ernesto Vega and Celia Corrales, plus Jesús Pacheco rounding out the ensemble. These aren’t your cruise ship flamenco performers – these are the real deal, artists who live and breathe this centuries-old art form.

Why Your Friends Who Went to Spain Keep Talking About Flamenco

You know how your neighbor came back from Barcelona and wouldn’t stop talking about that tiny flamenco bar they stumbled into? This is that experience, minus the jet lag and the $2,000 plane ticket. For just $35, you get the whole package – the raw emotion, the intricate guitar work, the passionate dancing, and that electric energy that makes flamenco impossible to watch without getting goosebumps.

Here’s What You’re Actually Getting Into

A tablao isn’t like going to see a band at a regular venue. You’re part of the performance. The dancers feed off your energy. The guitarist might catch your eye mid-solo. You’ll find yourself clapping along to rhythms you didn’t know your hands could make. By the end of the night, you’ll understand why people dedicate their entire lives to this art form.

The show runs about 90 minutes – long enough to transport you to Andalusia, short enough that you can still grab late-night tacos afterward and tell everyone about what they missed.

The “Should I Really Go?” Test

Ask yourself:

  • Have you been meaning to try something new but keep putting it off?
  • Would you like to impress that friend who thinks they know all the cool spots in town?
  • Are you tired of scrolling through the same entertainment options every weekend?
  • Do you want a story that starts with “So last Saturday night…” and actually goes somewhere interesting?

If you answered yes to any of these, you know what to do.

Getting Your Saturday Night Started Right

When: Saturday, September 13th, 8:00 PM
Where: Ovations, 2536 Times Blvd B (in Rice Village – yes, there’s parking)
Cost: $35
Tickets: Available at anamariabarceloflamenco.ludus.com/200495246

Pro tip: This is Barraza’s first Houston performance, which means two things: bragging rights for being there first, and a guitarist bringing extra fire to make a memorable debut. The venue’s intimate, so once those seats fill up, that’s it.

Why This Weekend Matters

Look, Houston’s got plenty of entertainment options. But how often do you get to experience something that’s been perfected over centuries, performed by artists at the top of their game, in a venue small enough that you can actually see their expressions change with the music?

This isn’t just watching a performance – it’s feeling music and movement combine into something that hits you right in the chest. It’s the kind of night that reminds you why live performance will never be replaced by screens.

Your couch will still be there Sunday. This show won’t.

Grab your tickets now and prepare for a Saturday night that’ll have you planning your next trip to Spain – or at least to the next flamenco show.
