Welcome to today’s episode! We’re excited to have a compelling conversation with Stephanie Bassham, the Democratic candidate running for Texas House Representatives, District 30. Stephanie brings a powerful and authentic voice to the campaign, grounded in her roots as a real coal miner’s daughter. She’s not afraid to fight for the issues that matter most—sustainable jobs with fair wages, affordable housing, public education, and reproductive freedom.
Stephanie’s journey is as inspiring as it is unique. She spent her adult life in the Northeast before moving to Texas in 2017 with her husband, a Navy veteran. Raised in Southern West Virginia, Stephanie’s strong Democratic values were shaped by her working-class upbringing. Her father was a coal miner, her mother a lab technician—both proud union members.
Stephanie’s decision to run for office was sparked by the story of Kate Cox, who had to leave Texas to access reproductive health care. This moment, coinciding with the deadline to file for candidacy, motivated Stephanie to take action. She made the brave choice to put her name on the ballot and jump into the race.
Stay tuned as we dive into her story, her vision for Texas, and the passion driving her campaign.
