If you’ve ever wondered how some artists seem to have it all figured out—getting their work noticed, landing opportunities, actually making money from their art—this Thursday is your chance to learn their secrets.

The City of Laredo’s Public Arts Program is offering completely free workshops that cover everything from writing winning proposals to understanding budgets, building professional practices, and finding real job opportunities in the arts. And here’s the best part: you don’t need to be Picasso to benefit.

What You’re Getting (For Free)

These aren’t your typical “let’s paint a sunset” art classes. These workshops tackle the business side that most artists struggle with:

Proposal Tips: Learn how to write applications that actually get approved and funded Budget Basics: Finally understand how to price your work and manage art project finances Professional Practices: Discover how successful artists present themselves and their work Job Opportunities: Find out where the paying gigs are and how to land them

When and Where to Show Up

Thursday, July 31st is your first chance, with sessions at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library Conference Room (1120 E. Calton Rd.).

Choose your time:

  • Morning Session: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Afternoon Session: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

The workshops are open to artists 17 and up, and all experience levels are welcome. Whether you’ve been creating art for decades or just picked up your first paintbrush, these sessions will give you tools you can use immediately.

Why This Could Change Everything

Most artists are incredibly talented but struggle with the business side of their craft. They create amazing work, then have no idea how to get it seen, sold, or funded. These workshops fill that gap by teaching you the professional skills that separate hobbyists from working artists.

You’ll learn from people who’ve actually navigated the art world successfully—not just theoretically, but in practice. They’ll share the insider knowledge that usually only comes from years of trial and error.

The Catch (There Really Isn’t One)

These workshops are completely free, but spots are limited. The city is investing in local artists because they know that a thriving creative community benefits everyone. When artists succeed, they bring culture, tourism, and economic activity to Laredo.

The only requirement is that you sign up before spots fill up. Given that most workshops like this cost hundreds or thousands of dollars elsewhere, these free sessions will likely fill fast.

Final Thought

Every successful artist reaches a point where talent alone isn’t enough—you need to understand the business side too. This Thursday, Laredo is offering you the chance to learn those crucial skills without the usual barriers of cost or location.

Whether you’re a painter, sculptor, photographer, or any other type of artist, these workshops will give you practical tools you can start using immediately. The question isn’t whether you have time—it’s whether you can afford to miss this opportunity.

Ready to level up your art career? Visit laredolibrary.org/public-arts-program to register, or scan the QR code on the flyer. Follow @PublicArtsLaredo on social media for updates.

Don’t let someone else take your spot—sign up today.
