Dallas, TX – The American Jewish Conservatives is hosting their Annual Hanukkah Celebration, an evening filled with joy, tradition, and patriotism. The event takes place on Sunday, December 29, at 6:00 PM in the elegant Hilton Garden Inn Ballroom at 10350 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75231.

This year’s celebration will feature a dynamic lineup of guest speakers, including:

  • Lt. Col. Allen West, a retired U.S. Army officer, former Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, and host of Steadfast & Loyal.

Evening Highlights:

  • A gourmet dinner and drinks
  • Live music and entertainment by vocalist and pianist Patrick Boston
  • A Hanukkah candle-lighting ceremony
  • Silent auction and raffle prizes
  • Many more surprises to make the evening unforgettable

Hanukkah Traditions: A Celebration of Light and Faith

1. Lighting the Menorah
The Hanukkiah, a nine-branched menorah, is central to the holiday. Each night, a new candle is lit using the shamash (helper candle) until all eight are glowing. Families recite blessings and sing traditional songs like “Maoz Tzur” (Rock of Ages).

2. Dreidel Game
This classic game uses a spinning top marked with Hebrew letters that stand for “A great miracle happened there.” Players spin to win coins, nuts, or chocolate gelt, making it a fun activity for all ages.

3. Traditional Foods
Fried foods symbolize the miracle of the oil, with latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts) as beloved staples. Other dishes like brisket and kugel also feature in Hanukkah meals.

4. Gifts and Charity
Families exchange small gifts or money, known as gelt, each night of Hanukkah. This tradition encourages generosity and sharing blessings with those in need.

5. Music and Songs
From timeless melodies like “I Have a Little Dreidel” to modern compositions, music plays a vital role in Hanukkah celebrations.

Ways to Celebrate Hanukkah

  • Set Up a Hanukkiah: Display it in a prominent location and light it with family or community to commemorate the miracle of the oil.
  • Host a Hanukkah Feast: Share traditional dishes and the story of Hanukkah with loved ones.
  • Play Dreidel: Gather friends and family for a spirited game and teach its historical significance.
  • Give Gifts and Charity: Celebrate the value of giving by sharing gifts and supporting charitable causes.
  • Attend a Community Event: Join public menorah lightings, concerts, and festive gatherings to enhance the holiday spirit.

Hanukkah’s Modern Significance

Beyond its historical origins, Hanukkah celebrates resilience, religious freedom, and the triumph of light over darkness. Through family traditions, community events, and acts of kindness, the holiday fosters a deeper connection to faith, heritage, and hope.

Chag Sameach! (Happy Holiday!)
