AUSTIN — Ready to trade your couch for cowboy boots and your remote control for a road map? Summer has officially rolled into Texas like a tumbleweed on a mission, and it’s bringing the sixth annual Great Outdoor Scavenger Hunt (GOSH) along for the ride!

This isn’t your typical treasure hunt where you’re digging around dusty attics looking for old photo albums. No sir! GOSH is serving up a heaping helping of Texas-sized adventure that’ll have you exploring every nook, cranny, and scenic overlook our beautiful state has to offer.

Hunt for Fun, Hunt for Prizes!

What’s better than discovering hidden gems across Texas? Discovering them and winning fabulous prizes while you’re at it! The generous folks at Whole Earth Provision Co., Texas Historical Commission, Families in Nature, and Texas State Parks have stuffed the prize chest fuller than a piñata at a quinceañera.

Complete challenges in any region, and you’ll earn yourself a golden ticket (well, more like an entry) into drawings for some seriously sweet swag. But here’s where it gets really exciting: finish every single activity on this year’s hunt, and you’ll be in the running for the grand prize that’s bigger than a cowboy’s hat on Derby Day.

Fame, Fortune, and Facebook Bragging Rights

Think completing GOSH just gets you prizes? Think again, partner! Finish all activities in a region, and you’ll get your name splashed across the pages of Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine like a famous explorer. Your friends will be so jealous, they’ll practically turn green as a Gulf Coast marsh.

“Ready, Set, GOSH!” isn’t just the rallying cry—it’s your invitation to become a bona fide Texas adventurer. Each region you conquer earns you another shot at those prize drawings, because apparently, the folks running this shindig believe in rewarding effort almost as much as they believe in good barbecue.

A Texas-Sized Thank You

This adventure extravaganza wouldn’t be possible without a supporting cast that reads like a who’s who of Texas tourism. Visit Tyler and Visit Greenville are rolling out the welcome mat in East Texas, while the Texas Historical Commission is making sure you get your fill of fascinating history.

The City of Gonzales is bringing that small-town charm, and the Texas Science and Natural History Museum is ready to blow your mind with natural wonders. Down south, the City of Port Isabel is waiting with coastal adventures, while Adopt A Beach and Texas Beach Watch are keeping our shorelines pristine for your exploration.

The South Texas Ecotourism Center and Aransas Pathways are your guides to wildlife watching, the Museum of the Big Bend is showcasing the rugged beauty of West Texas, and Texas Outdoor Musical is adding a little song and dance to the whole affair.

Time’s Ticking Like a Grandfather Clock

Mark your calendars in permanent marker, folks: GOSH 2025 wraps up at the stroke of midnight on Labor Day, September 1st. That gives you the entire summer to channel your inner Indiana Jones and explore Texas like never before.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a vacation virtuoso, there’s a perfect adventure waiting for you. The hunt includes detailed driving directions because getting lost is only fun when it’s part of the plan, not when you’re trying to find that historic courthouse or scenic overlook.

Choose Your Own Adventure

The beauty of GOSH lies in its flexibility. Pick your region like you’re choosing toppings for your favorite pizza—there’s no wrong choice, just different flavors of awesome. Each region offers its own unique blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and Instagram-worthy photo opportunities.

From the piney woods of East Texas to the desert landscapes of the Big Bend, from Gulf Coast beaches to Hill Country vistas, GOSH covers more ground than a cattle drive and promises more fun than a county fair.

So dust off your hiking boots, charge up your camera, and prepare for a summer adventure that’ll give you stories to tell for years to come. After all, life’s too short for boring weekends, and Texas is too amazing to explore from your living room.

The Great Outdoor Scavenger Hunt awaits—are you ready to answer the call?
