Senator Ted Cruz recently highlighted a significant development in the aviation sector, emphasizing the potential of Texas as a hub for next-generation aviation technologies.
As a key author of the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, Cruz secured a provision to establish a federal research and testing center in Texas, dedicated to emerging aviation technologies such as drones, electric air taxis, and supersonic aircraft.
During a roundtable with leaders from the advanced aviation industry, Cruz underscored the importance of a national regulatory system that supports the integration of these innovative technologies into the National Airspace System. He noted the challenges faced by the FAA in managing non-traditional aviation forms, which further justifies the need for this new center. The proposed Center for Advanced Aviation Technologies is envisioned as a collaborative hub for industry, government, and academia, fostering the development and integration of cutting-edge aviation technologies.
Cruz pointed out that the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area, with its rich history of aviation innovation and strong existing infrastructure, is the ideal location for this center. He believes that establishing the center in DFW will catalyze significant economic growth, potentially attracting billions in investment and creating tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. Cruz envisions a future where DFW could be home to the headquarters of the next generation of aviation giants, further solidifying Texas’s role as a leader in the aviation industry.
Great to visit and meet with aviation leaders in Dallas today to discuss the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act — and how we are building on the aviation infrastructure in Texas.
