August 9 — First Day Fresh Cuts
Before the school bells start ringing, Lockhart ISD gets kids looking sharp for picture day. First Day Fresh Cuts runs from 1 to 5 p.m. at Lockhart Junior High School, located at 500 City Line Road, offering free haircuts to students ahead of the district’s first day of school on August 13. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference for families heading into the new school year, and now heading into its second year, it’s quickly becoming a beloved local tradition. September 18 — Texas Women Songwriters Festival
Music lovers should circle this one. The Texas Women Songwriters Festival returns to downtown Lockhart, spreading multi-artist song-swaps, headliner shows, and even mariachi performances across nine walkable venues throughout the historic district. The festival launched in 2025 as a gathering built specifically to showcase and elevate Texas women singer-songwriters, founded by Central Texas musician and educator Mandy Rowden, who actually calls Lockhart home. Its inaugural year brought more than 50 Texas women singer-songwriters to town, with past headliners including Rosie Flores, Tish Hinojosa, Sara Hickman, Kimmie Rhodes, and Pauline Reese, an artist Willie Nelson himself once called the queen of Texas country music. October 17 — LIT Fest: A Book Fair in the Square
Lockhart’s first-ever book festival lands right on the iconic courthouse square, located at the Caldwell County Courthouse in downtown Lockhart, running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and free to the public. Presented by the Lockhart Initiative for Tourism, LIT Fest brings together authors, book lovers, and storytellers for a full day of author panels, book signings, and literary fun, with a special spotlight on the local creatives who’ve helped make Lockhart’s arts scene one of the most talked-about in small-town Texas. Given Lockhart is home to the Dr. Eugene Clark Library, the oldest library in Texas still standing in its original building, this feels like exactly the right town to host a celebration of books.
