GRAPEVINE, TX – June 12 marks National Superman Day, a celebration of the iconic comic book hero who has inspired generations with his strength, morality, and resilience. Fittingly, the day falls during Father’s Day weekend, a time when many celebrate the real-life heroes in their lives—especially those lucky enough to call their dad their own Superman.
While comic fans across the country honor their favorite Kryptonian with costumes, collectibles, and cinematic marathons, one event in North Texas is taking the tribute to heroic heights—literally.
Running now through September 1, 2025, the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine is hosting “Universe of Light featuring DC”, the first-ever DC Super Hero-themed lantern show in the United States. This dazzling indoor spectacle is part of the resort’s SummerFest 2025 and has quickly become a must-see event for families, comic book lovers, and selfie-seekers alike.
Lanterns of Legend
The immersive exhibit features nearly 30 larger-than-life DC characters, including Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and The Flash, rendered in glowing silk and steel lanterns illuminated by cutting-edge LED technology. Standing as tall as 24 feet and stretching up to 42 feet wide, these handcrafted giants are set within 12 intricately themed scenes, from the soaring skyline of Metropolis to the mythic shores of Themyscira, and the shadowy alleys of Gotham City.
Visitors will witness epic face-offs between heroes and villains: Superman versus Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman battling The Cheetah, and Batman on the trail of The Joker and Catwoman. The journey concludes with the Hero’s Walk of Fame, where guests can pose for photos alongside their favorite icons and shop for exclusive DC-themed merchandise, including a special-edition comic book created just for the event.
More than 1,000 lanterns, 30 miles of silk, and 200,000 pounds of steel have been transformed into a glowing tribute to the DC Universe—making this experience as ambitious and jaw-dropping as the stories themselves.
The Legacy of the Gaylord Texan
