Texas is ranked third among the top five most Halloween-obsessed states in the U.S., according to a report by outdoor furniture retailer Backyard Oasis.

The study analyzed all 50 states based on Halloween-related search results, including costumes, decor, candy, haunted houses, and Halloween events.

California comes first as No. 1, followed by New York at No. 2. The data already factor in state populations to obtain more accurate results.

According to the data, Texas has 47 haunted houses and more than 75 Spirit Halloween stores in 2024, especially in major metropolitan areas like Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. In October 2023, there were 9,314,440 Halloween costume searches in Texas, 1,168,320 Halloween decoration searches, and 445,670 Halloween candy searches.

Backyard Oasis CEO Andy Wu commented on the report,
“Halloween is one of the most exciting times of the year, bringing people together through creativity and celebration. It’s amazing to see how different states embrace the holiday in their own unique ways, from massive costume searches to thrilling haunted houses. California, for example, truly leads the way with its vibrant Halloween events and spooky attractions. It’s clear that Halloween is more than just a holiday – it’s a tradition that sparks creativity and joy across the U.S.”
The top 5 most Halloween-obsessed states are:
  • No. 1 – California
  • No. 2 – New York
  • No. 3 – Texas
  • No. 4 – Florida
  • No. 5 – Illinois
