  • Tragedy in Houston: child struck and killed on Thanksgiving Day
A seven-year-old boy was struck by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle Thanksgiving morning, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the driver remained at the scene and cooperated; authorities are investigating whether impairment or other factors contributed. The case has renewed calls for motorists to drive cautiously — especially during holidays, when families are often out and about.
  • Cold front heading toward South Texas — freeze risk returning
Meteorologists warn that a strong cold front will bring sharply colder temperatures statewide this weekend, with chances of the first frost of the season in parts of Central Texas and the Hill Country.
Residents in vulnerable areas are being urged to protect vulnerable plants, livestock, and to check on neighbors who may be more sensitive to cold.
  • Tornado aftermath: widespread home damage and cleanup underway near Houston
More than 100 homes were damaged across several suburbs as storms toppled trees, ripped off roofs, and downed power lines. AP
Over 20,000 customers lost electricity at one point; local fire and public-works crews are working to clear debris, repair infrastructure, and restore services.
  • Turkey trots and community races bring people together
The 35th annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot in Austin saw record participation, drawing around 25,000 people. In Beaumont, another long-running Turkey Trot brought thousands downtown to celebrate the holiday with fitness and fundraising.

  • Communities work to address growing food insecurity
In Waco, organizers delivered 650 Thanksgiving meals to families facing financial hardship, noting that demand is rising sharply. Across the state, nonprofits shared lists of free meals, turkey giveaways, and volunteer opportunities to help those in need during the holiday.
