Picture this: Your child’s favorite stuffed animal is about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime – and you won’t believe what happens when the library lights go out! The Forest Green Branch Library in Dallas is hosting their magical Teddy Bear Sleepover on Thursday, July 17th at 6:00 PM, and trust me, you’ll want to clear your calendar for this one.

What’s the Big Deal?

This isn’t just story time – it’s a full-blown teddy bear adventure! Kids come over for a pajama party and then leave their stuffed animals behind for a night of fun. The kids came for a storytime and a movie, and then signed “permission slips” for the stuffed animals to stay overnight. Your little one will get to tuck their furry friend into bed, say goodnight, and leave them for the most exciting sleepover ever.

What Actually Happens While You’re Gone?

Here’s where it gets absolutely magical. Library workers snap photos of them choosing books, reading together, bonding over “The Rainbow Fish.” When kids pick them up the next day, they can see how much fun their little friends had. Your child’s teddy bear will be photographed “reading” books, exploring different sections of the library, and getting into all sorts of adorable mischief.

After mischief and adventures, the bears settled in with books to read before saying goodnight to the librarians and closing the library for the night. Think of it as your stuffed animal’s personal photo shoot – but way more fun!

Similar Events Across Texas

You’re not alone in Texas! This trend is spreading like wildfire across the state:

  • Leander Public Library near Austin has hosted similar pajama storytime and teddy bear sleepover events
  • El Paso libraries have featured these programs at locations like José Cisneros Cielo Vista Library
  • Missouri City Branch Library in the Houston area runs seasonal teddy bear sleepovers during spring break

Libraries from Fort Worth to San Antonio are catching on – this could be coming to your neighborhood soon!

What Books Will Be Read?

While the specific book list for Forest Green’s event isn’t announced, these sleepovers typically feature cozy bedtime stories perfect for the 0-5 age group. A little boy searching for his teddy in the forest finds something else. Expect classic bedtime tales, bear-themed books, and stories about friendship and adventure.

Popular sleepover storytime books often include “The Rainbow Fish,” teddy bear classics, and gentle bedtime stories that get kids excited about reading with their stuffed friends.

For Concerned Parents: The Real Deal

THE PROS:

  • Your child develops a positive association with the library
  • Encourages reading and storytelling
  • Creates lasting memories and excitement about books
  • Builds independence in a safe, supervised environment
  • Professional librarians supervise everything
  • You get adorable photos of your child’s favorite toy

THE CONS:

  • Your child might be anxious about leaving their stuffed animal overnight
  • Some kids may have trouble sleeping without their comfort object
  • Limited spots available (this event fills up fast!)
  • One-night separation anxiety for both child and parent

What Really Happens to Your Stuffed Animal?

Here’s the behind-the-scenes scoop: When all the activities were done it was time to say goodnight to the animals. Then they made a name tag for their animal, kissed them goodnight and put them in the tent. Your teddy bear will be:

  • Carefully labeled with your child’s name
  • Photographed in various “adventures” around the library
  • Kept in a secure, supervised environment
  • Treated with the same care librarians give to precious books
  • Ready for pickup the next morning with a full photo album of their “night out”

Don’t Miss Out!

When: Thursday, July 17, 2025, 6:00-6:30 PM
Where: Forest Green Branch Library, 9619 Greenville Ave, Dallas
Ages: 0-5 years (perfect for your little ones!)
Cost: FREE (because the best childhood memories shouldn’t cost a thing)

Contact them NOW: (214) 670-1335 or [email protected]

This is the kind of event that turns your child into a lifelong library lover. They’ll be talking about their teddy bear’s “big night out” for months, and you’ll have the cutest photos to prove it happened. Plus, when was the last time you had a guaranteed good night’s sleep while your kid’s favorite stuffed animal was having the time of their life?

Mark your calendar, grab those pajamas, and get ready for the most adorable 30 minutes of your week. Your teddy bear is about to become the star of their own adventure story!
