Ten days, 178 miles, a cattle drive through downtown, a lowrider cruise, a ranch rodeo, 60-plus vintage trailers, classic cars, live music, and a free grand finale on Historic 6th Avenue — the 2026 Texas Route 66 Festival is the biggest celebration in the Mother Road’s century-long history.
Route 66 turns 100 years old in 2026. And Texas is throwing the only official Route 66 festival in the state to mark the occasion — ten days across 178 miles of Panhandle highway, from small towns you’ve never visited to one of the most iconic streets in the Southwest.
The Texas Route 66 Festival runs June 4 through 13, 2026 — and it ends with a massive free finale in Amarillo on Saturday, June 13.
Why This Year Is Different
Route 66 turns 100 in 2026 — and the Texas Route 66 Festival is celebrating the centennial with ten thrilling days of classic car shows, exclusive bus tours, a cattle drive and parade, live music, and more along the iconic Texas stretch. This isn’t a commemorative plaque and a press release. This is a living, breathing road trip turned into a festival — and 2026 is the biggest edition in its history.
The Texas Route 66 Festival is not just an event — it’s a full-blown, multi-day road trip across a region steeped in Americana, cowboy grit, and wide-open skies. You won’t find plastic replicas or faux diners. You’ll find ranchers, artists, musicians, mechanics, and dreamers who keep the road alive every day.
Ten Days of Events Across the Panhandle
The festival is a ten-day celebration unfolding across multiple towns along the Texas Panhandle’s 178 miles of Route 66. It is about the journey. Ten full days of events lead travelers town to town, mile by mile, building toward the grand finale in Amarillo’s Route 66 Historic District, where the Centennial closes out in true Texas style.
The West Texas Route 66 Bus Tour starts with a city tour of Vega, Texas, and includes visits to historical sites such as Magnolia Station and the Milburn-Price Culture Museum, as well as unique stops like Dots Mini Museum and the Bent Door Cafe. Attendees enjoy lunch at Midpoint Cafe, followed by visits to Dream Maker Station, Russel’s Car Museum, and the Glenrio Ghost Town, ending with live music on the Courthouse Lawn.
The Coors Cowboy Club Cattle Drive and Parade brings real cowboys and cowgirls leading a herd of Texas Longhorns through the heart of downtown Amarillo, joined by classic cars. The Coors Ranch Rodeo features teams of working cowboys competing in traditional events that reflect real ranch life at the Amarillo National Center starting at 7 p.m. The TX 66 Celebrity Fast Draw Shoot Out brings Amarillo’s local legends to the firing line in a Wild West-style speed competition at the Rex Baxter Building — free to attend, starting at 3 p.m.
The Tin Can Tourists roll into Amarillo June 11 through 14, bringing more than 60 vintage trailers to celebrate the Route 66 Centennial, with a public Open House at the Big Texan RV Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Lowrider Cruise on Old Route 66 is a free event showcasing lowriders cruising through historic Amarillo Boulevard. Lowriders are on display at 600 E. Amarillo Blvd from 6 to 7 p.m., then cruise from 7 to 7:45 p.m. At the same time, Will Rogers Park hosts an art show organized by local Chicano artists showcasing the legacy of lowrider and Chicano culture.
The Grand Finale — June 13 on Historic 6th Avenue
The 2026 Texas Route 66 Festival Centennial Finale will be the largest celebration yet, filling the entire Amarillo Route 66 Historic District with music, cars, food, and nonstop fun.
Historic 6th Avenue fills with classic cars, live music, local vendors, vintage flair, and thousands of Route 66 fans ready to celebrate in true Texas fashion. Classic car chrome and curves take over the street. Live music fills the bars and the pavement all day long. Shop local boutiques, vintage finds, and Route 66 treasures. Cheer on vintage glamour at the Miss Texas 66 Pin-Up Pageant. And watch brave challengers take on the famous 72 oz. Steak Challenge on Route 66.
The entire finale is free and open to the public. Free parking and free shuttle buses run throughout the day, with shuttles starting at 10:45 a.m. and running up and down 6th Street until 7:15 p.m.
