Ride Free This Fourth of July: Tarrant County Buses Are Free — and Austin’s Joining In Too
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Skip the parking headache and the holiday traffic. Trinity Metro is offering free rides across Tarrant County on July 4, and Austin’s CapMetro is going fare-free in the evening — here’s how to plan your celebration

Here’s a holiday tip that’ll save you money and a parking headache, neighbor: this Fourth of July, you may be able to leave the car at home and ride to the fireworks for free. With America marking a once-in-a-generation milestone — 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence — Texas transit agencies are helping folks get to the party without the hassle.

Tarrant County: Free Rides All Day on Trinity Metro

Fort Worth and the rest of Tarrant County are leading the charge. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, Trinity Metro is offering free rides on all local Tarrant County services, inviting everyone to be part of the celebration. (One exception: the Cowtown Visitor Shuttles aren’t included.)

That means you can ditch the parking scramble and ride free to holiday gatherings, festivals, and fireworks shows across the county. A few things to know before you go, since some services run on modified schedules that day:

Trinity Metro buses and On-Demand Paratransit will run on Sunday schedules. If you’re heading to Fort Worth’s Fourth fireworks at Panther Island, you’re in luck — bus Route 46 will run extended late-night service to get celebrators home after the show. TEXRail runs its regular schedule, and weekend On-Demand rideshare operates as usual. The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and TRE LINK will run their World Cup non-matchday weekend schedules. Note that the CentrePort Circulator will not operate that day.

Need help planning? Trinity Metro’s phone lines (817-215-8600) are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the ticket kiosk at Fort Worth Central Station is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Austin: CapMetro Goes Fare-Free in the Evening

The capital city is getting in on it too. In Austin, CapMetro is running holiday service on July 4 — Sunday-level bus service, Saturday-level rail service, and Pickup shuttle service — and here’s the kicker: all CapMetro rides are fare-free after 5 p.m. That’s perfect timing for anyone heading downtown or to a fireworks viewing spot in the evening, letting you skip the traffic and the parking and just enjoy the night.

Check Your Local Agency Before You Head Out

Free and holiday-adjusted transit deals like these pop up across Texas every Fourth of July, and big-city systems often run special or modified schedules for the holiday. If you’re in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, or anywhere else, it’s worth a quick check with your local transit agency — Houston METRO, DART, VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, and others — to see whether they’re offering free rides or running holiday schedules on July 4. A two-minute look at your agency’s website or a quick call can save you the parking battle entirely.

However you get there, leaving the car at home means more time celebrating and less time circling for a spot. Plan ahead, hop on board, and enjoy America’s big 250th birthday — Texas style.
