A Honduran national was indicted by a DeSoto County grand jury in the death of his roommate; the charge is an allegation, and ICE says it has placed a detainer on him
The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer on a Honduran national indicted on a murder charge in Mississippi.
According to DHS, the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office announced on June 11, 2026, that a grand jury had indicted Maberic Reyes-Reyes on a charge of murder. The agency said, citing previous reporting, that Reyes-Reyes is accused of killing his roommate in a machete attack in Southaven, Mississippi, on January 13, 2026. The indictment is an allegation that has not been proven in court, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until convicted.
DHS said ICE lodged a detainer for Reyes-Reyes on January 14. In a statement, Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said the man is charged in his roommate’s killing and that ICE would work with law enforcement partners in Mississippi on the case. Bis also attributed his presence in the country to the prior administration’s border policies.
According to DHS, Reyes-Reyes entered the United States as a minor in Texas in 2022 and was released into the country at that time.
