Hurricane Season is Around the Corner — Are You Prepared
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

If this isn’t your first year living in Texas, then you probably already know: hurricane season is just around the corner. But whether you’re a seasoned resident or a newcomer to the Lone Star State, consider this a friendly reminder from The Texas Insider to start preparing now.

Texas weather can change rapidly, and being prepared before the storm hits is key to staying safe. While most hurricanes affect the Gulf Coast, their impact can reach well inland with heavy rain, wind, and power outages. Don’t wait until a storm is in the forecast—take a few minutes now to review your hurricane prep plan.

Before the Storm: Essential Steps

Here’s a quick checklist to help you get started:

  • Create a Family Emergency Plan
Know your evacuation routes, emergency contacts, and local shelter locations.

  • Build a Disaster Supply Kit
Include water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, medications, hygiene items, and important documents.

  • Stay Informed
Sign up for local alerts and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or trusted news sources.

  • Prepare Your Home
Secure outdoor furniture, trim trees, check your roof, and have plywood or storm shutters ready.

  • Fuel Up
Fill your car’s gas tank and have extra fuel for generators if needed.

Don’t let the season catch you off guard. A few steps today could make all the difference when a storm approaches.
