Got a pile of old bank statements collecting dust in your closet? That ancient computer tower taking up space in your garage? Arlington has you covered this Saturday with a free shredding and electronics recycling event that’ll help you declutter while protecting your personal information.

The City of Arlington is hosting this community service event Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UTA parking lot on the southeast corner of Mitchell Street and Cooper Street. Best part? It won’t cost you a penny.

What You Can Bring

Paper Shredding: You can bring up to two banker’s box-sized containers of documents per vehicle. Think old tax returns, bank statements, medical records, or any papers with personal information you need destroyed securely. The papers get shredded right there on-site, so you can watch your sensitive documents disappear for good.

Electronics Recycling: Time to clean out that junk drawer and spare bedroom. Arlington will take these electronics off your hands:

  • Old TVs – Both flat screens and those heavy tube TVs from the ’90s
  • Computers and laptops – Plus keyboards, mice, and other computer parts
  • Office equipment – Printers, scanners, fax machines
  • Entertainment gear – Stereos, DVD players, gaming consoles
  • Small devices – Cameras, cell phones, tablets
  • Kitchen appliances – Microwaves and other small corded appliances
  • Batteries and backup devices

What You Can’t Bring

Don’t load up your truck with these items – they won’t be accepted:

  • Big appliances – Washers, dryers, dishwashers
  • Anything with Freon – Refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, air conditioners

If you’ve got large appliances to dump, call Republic Services at (817) 317-2000 instead.

Important Details You Need to Know

Location: Southeast corner of Mitchell Street and Cooper Street (UTA parking lot) Entry: Drive in from Doug Russell Road on the south end of the parking lot Time: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025 Cost: Completely free

Requirements:

  • Must be an Arlington resident (bring proof of residency)
  • No trailers allowed
  • Paper shredding stops when the truck fills up, so arrive early

Why This Matters for You

Identity theft is real, and those old documents sitting around your house are a goldmine for criminals. Professional shredding ensures your personal information can’t be pieced back together from your regular trash.

For electronics, proper recycling keeps harmful materials out of landfills while recovering valuable metals and components. Plus, you’ll finally have space in that spare closet.

Get There Early

The paper shredding truck has limited capacity and stops accepting documents once it’s full. If you’ve got important papers to destroy, plan to arrive closer to 8 a.m. rather than waiting until afternoon.

The electronics recycling typically lasts the full six hours, but popular events like this can get busy, especially on nice weather days.

One Less Thing on Your To-Do List

Saturday morning just became productive. Load up your old electronics, grab those boxes of documents you’ve been meaning to deal with, and head to the UTA parking lot. In one trip, you’ll declutter your home, protect your identity, and help the environment – all for free.
