Classic aircraft, helicopter rides, CAF airplane rides, a trackless train, the Midlothian Classic Wheels Club, and a pancake breakfast that feeds hundreds and benefits Boy Scout Troop 524 — this one is free to attend and just 30 minutes from Dallas.
There are not many mornings in Texas where you can watch a WWII-era fighter plane taxi past your breakfast table while a helicopter lifts off overhead and a trackless train full of kids winds through the flight line. June 6 at Mid-Way Regional Airport in Midlothian is one of them.
The annual Pancake Breakfast Fly-In and Drive-In returns to Mid-Way Regional Airport on Saturday, June 6 from 8 to 11 a.m. — free to attend, free to park, and packed with the kind of family morning that turns a Saturday into a memory. The airport, jointly owned by the cities of Midlothian and Waxahachie in Ellis County, opens its tarmac to classic aircraft, vintage cars, and the general public for one of the best small-airport events in North Texas.
What You’ll See on the Flight Line
Classic airplanes and fighters, helicopter rides, CAF airplane rides, a trackless train, the Midlothian Classic Wheels Club, and children’s activities including bounce house, face painting, and balloon twister fill the morning.
The Commemorative Air Force — better known as the CAF — preserves and flies restored vintage military aircraft, and their planes are among the most spectacular draws of the event. Standing beside a WWII-era aircraft on the tarmac, walking underneath the wings, watching the engine fire up — this is the kind of hands-on aviation history that museum exhibits simply can’t replicate.
Helicopter rides and CAF airplane rides are available for purchase if you want to go beyond watching from the ground. The Midlothian Classic Wheels Club brings a curated collection of vintage and classic automobiles to round out a full morning of mechanical artistry from above and below.
For younger visitors, the trackless train loops the tarmac, bounce houses keep energy levels appropriately chaotic, and face painters and balloon artists ensure no child leaves empty-handed.
The Pancake Breakfast — $8 and Worth Every Bite
Proceeds from the pancake breakfast benefit Boy Scout Troop 524. Adults and children 8 and over: $8. Children under 8: $4. Tickets can only be purchased at the event. In past years, more than 900 people have been served breakfast — nearly 60 aircraft have flown in — and the crowd keeps growing. Come hungry. The pancakes are made fresh on-site and the line moves fast.
