From Willie Nelson’s legendary picnic in Austin and Addison’s nationally ranked Kaboom Town fireworks to Houston’s Freedom Over Texas, Round Rock’s Frontier Days parade, small-town celebrations in Granbury, Fredericksburg, and Marble Falls, and fireworks over the Gulf in Galveston — Texas celebrates America’s birthday bigger than anyone.
July 4, 2026 lands on a Saturday — and Texas is treating it as the full red, white, and blue occasion it deserves. This year also marks the 250th anniversary of American independence, adding an extra layer of significance to celebrations already known for going big. Here is your city-by-city guide to the best Independence Day celebrations across the state.
Austin — Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic
The most iconic July 4th event in Texas is not a fireworks show or a parade. It is a concert — and it has been going on for more than five decades. Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic is a Texas music institution, drawing artists from across the Americana, country, and Texas music spectrum for a full day and night of live performance that ends with fireworks and one of the most unique Independence Day experiences in the country.
Austin also hosts the Austin Symphony H-E-B July 4th Concert and Fireworks — a free, family-friendly outdoor concert at the Long Center with the symphony playing patriotic favorites before a fireworks finale over Lady Bird Lake. The Hill Country Galleria Independence Day Festival in Bee Cave rounds out the Austin area with an accessible family celebration on the west side of the city.
