Texas Honey Show Returns to Waco This November – 145 Years of Sweet Tradition

Mark your calendars, honey lovers: the Texas Honey Show is coming to Waco this November, and it’s going to be sweeter than ever. The Texas Beekeepers Association is celebrating 145 years of Texas beekeeping with their biggest Annual Convention yet, running November 20-22, 2025 at the Waco Convention Center.

This isn’t your average county fair honey booth. We’re talking about the Super Bowl of Texas honey – three days packed with competitions, tastings, workshops, and the kind of liquid gold you can’t find at the grocery store.

What Makes Texas Honey Special

Before you plan your trip to Waco, here’s why Texas honey deserves the spotlight. Our state produces some serious sweetness:

  • 8.9 million pounds of honey flow from Texas hives annually
  • 157,000 honey-producing colonies buzz across our great state
  • That golden goodness is worth $17 million to Texas agriculture
  • Our honey varieties range from wildflower to mesquite to cotton blossom

Each jar tells the story of where those bees foraged – East Texas pine forests taste different from Hill Country wildflowers, and South Texas citrus groves create their own unique flavor profile.

The Big Event: What to Expect

The Texas Honey Show isn’t just about pretty jars lined up on tables (though there are plenty of those). Here’s what you’ll find November 20-22:

Honey Competitions – Professional beekeepers and hobbyists compete for ribbons in categories like liquid honey, creamed honey, chunk honey, and even honey wine. Judges evaluate color, clarity, flavor, and aroma.

Beeswax Contests – From candles to cosmetics, see what creative beekeepers do with nature’s perfect wax.

Beekeeping Arts & Crafts – Photography contests, woodworking displays, and artistic creations all inspired by the bee world.

Educational Workshops – Learn from experts about starting your own hives, fighting bee diseases, or just understanding what makes honey special.

Vendor Booths – Equipment suppliers, honey sellers, and specialty food makers line the convention center with everything bee-related.

Tastings – Sample honey varieties from across Texas and discover your new favorite.

Why This Year Matters More Than Ever

This year’s convention carries extra weight. Texas beekeepers are facing their toughest challenges in decades, with some operations losing over 60% of their colonies to disease, weather, and other stresses. But instead of giving up, they’re doubling down on education and community support.

The 145th anniversary celebration isn’t just about looking back – it’s about ensuring Texas beekeeping thrives for another 145 years. Every workshop, every competition, and every conversation at this event helps preserve knowledge and strengthen the community.
