Inner Space Cavern

Located an hour north of Austin, Inner Space Cavern is one of Texas’ best-preserved caves, even holding prehistoric remains. This Georgetown gem offers three distinct tours, each unveiling different aspects of its stunning underground world.

  • Adventure Tour: Perfect for all ages, this one-hour, well-lit tour covers the cavern’s main pathways and showcases breathtaking formations. (Adults: $23.95-$24.95, Children: $17.95-$18.95)
  • Hidden Passages Tour: For ages 7+, this 1.5-hour tour goes into undeveloped areas, allowing explorers to see delicate flowstone, drapery, and soda straws with guide-provided flashlights. (Adults: $28.95-$29.95, Children: $20.95-$21.95)
  • Wild Cave Tour: A true spelunking adventure for ages 13+, this 3.5-4-hour weekend tour explores off-trail sections of the cave. (Cost: $125 per person)

Longhorn Cavern State Park

Just northwest of Austin, Longhorn Cavern combines unique geology with history. Visitors can explore highlights like Crystal City, which sparkles with calcite crystals, and the Indian Council Room, believed to have hosted Comanche gatherings. With a comfortable 68°F year-round, this cavern offers various guided tours:

  • Walking Tour: A journey through the cavern’s rock formations and history. (Starts at $24/adults, $17/children)
  • Wild Cave Tour: A more rugged exploration of undeveloped sections for ages 8+. ($110 per person)
  • Paranormal Tour: An evening tour exploring reported hauntings and mysterious phenomena.

Natural Bridge Caverns

Cave Without a Name

Situated north of San Antonio, this National Natural Landmark earned its unique name when a local boy won a contest, declaring it “too pretty to have a name.” Featuring formations like “The Grapes,” this cave offers guided tours through six breathtaking chambers.

  • Guided Tour: A one-hour exploration through the stunning chambers. (Adults: $22, Children 6-12: $11, Children under 6: Free)
  • Live Concerts: Select weekends feature concerts within the cave, utilizing its natural acoustics.

Caverns of Sonora

Along I-10 between San Antonio and Big Bend National Park, the Caverns of Sonora boasts some of Texas’ most dazzling formations, described as “unexaggerated beauty” by the founder of the National Speleological Society.

  • Crystal Palace Tour: This 1-hour 45-minute guided tour takes visitors through decorated passages. (Adults: $28, Children 4-11: $22)
  • Discovery Challenge: A four-hour, off-trail adventure through a maze of passages, including a 50-foot rappel. ($110 per person)
